VIRTUAL PYRAMID
BY TOMAS JOAQUIN
The Pyramid of the Dead was created by the multi-dimensional artist around 2012 for La Calaca festival in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The Festival was co-founded in 2010 by Joaquin, which was instrumental in bringing Day of the Dead festivities to the world in a contemporary, participatory context. The Pyramid culminated in 2017 as one of the featured honorarium projects at Burning Man for that year in collaboration with video projection artist, Pats Saucedo.
HONORING.
Many depicted on the Pyramid are known characters from around the world who's spirit had crossed over that year. Some are past participants who were actually honored on playa when this was built. Many are artworks based on death and its traditions. Others are people from our community who were loved dearly. Let's honor them. Can you recognize anyone?
